Molière. From delusion
"Molière is immortal" – these words were supposed to be said by the King Luis XIV when he heard about Jean Baptiste Poquelin's death.
In the performance, the young artists try to answer the question: what does immortality of the artist mean? His works are certainly immortal. But are they only? Moliere's private life is shrouded with mystery. We still can hear racy rumours concerning his life among people of theatre or literary critics. Thus, the question arises: Did Moliere have a private life? At what point does the boundary between life and the life on stage blur? What is true, or what is imaginary? Imaginary... cuckold? Imaginary... invalid? Our imaginary thoughts on Moliere himself?
The artists pictured a narrowed circle of characters existent in Moliere's life. The characters spin ominously around the master, and their courtly minuet changes into a kind of a danse macabre. The artist's death on stage constitutes a finale of his game in theatralization of life. The performance combines puppet theatre techniques with drama theatre. It is also an attempt to confront the sensitivity of young artists with a classical theatre convention of one of the greatest myths of European culture in XVII century.
