Skłodowska. Radium Girl
inspired by the biography of Maria Skłodowska-Curie
The biographies of Maria Skłodowska-Curie do not include copyrights. It belongs to the public zone. We can use it. Maria is the face of feminism, a woman-myth, a product. Like other pop culture icons - Madonna, Marilyn Monroe, Superman – Maria Skłodowska – Curie shapes the collective imagination. But would our heroine want to co-create it as a conscious individual? The performance uses the statue of Maria perversely to address broadly understood freedom, respect for women's rights, multifaceted transcending of borders, violation of privacy of public figures, excessive ego and ambition, and the education system that tends to shut down human life in banal formulas. Significant social issues are confronted with the life attitude of the Nobel Prize winner, which restores the right to a sincere, intimate, often controversial statement. Using the language of the theater of a lively form, the creators in a dynamic and grotesque way approach the phenomena of Maria Skłodowska-Curie, rich in paradoxes.
